Creswick Remembrance Day Services

2006

Seven students from Creswick Primary School and two from Creswick North Primary School proudly joined School Captain Alex Kuhn who conducted the Remembrance Day Service. Other students read sections of the Service and described Remembrance Day in various countries. Mr. Jack Sewell of Creswick RSL Sub-branch spoke of the importance of younger generations carrying on this tradition.

The eighty eighth Anniversary of Armistice which ended World War I was observed with dignity and reverence by Creswick and North Creswick Primary School children who conducted the special ceremony at the refurbished War Memorial on Remembrance Day.

Held in perfect sunshine before a large assembly of veterans, community representatives and families, the children impressed the gathering with their tributes to the legends of the Poppy, the Ode to the Fallen, the Requiem, the placing of Wreaths, the silent tribute and the Last Post.

RSL President, Jack Sewell, congratulating the students and their principals, Rob Dixon and Pat Tacey, said the future traditions of ANZAC and Remembrance days were passing on to coming generations with a confidence that was heart-warming to everyone present.

2007

On Sunday 11 November 2007, eleven students from the Creswick Primary School conducted a Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph in the town's centre. Over 100 people attended; the biggest crowd for many years.

The RSL wants to publicly thank the students and the staff of the school for their very commendable efforts. It is great to see the young people of today putting in the effort to remember the sacrifice made by their forebears to keep our county free.

That effects continues in other parts of the country. At the RSL's November meeting a proud grandparent read out a moving poem which was written by Keira Clark and friends as part of their Remembrance Day studies in Grade 6-7 at St Barbara's Parish School at Roxby Bowens, in outback South Austrlaia.

The Poem
The fields lay silent
While Poppies grow, what was
A battle field long ago

The ones we cherished
The ones we loved
Have gone to heaven
The life above
Our hearts were ripped
Our hearts were torn
The ones we love are now gone

We miss our loved ones
Young and old, we'll tell
Our grandchildren the
Stories that are gold
They were gone for months
They were gone for years
Now our sorrows drown in their tears

We heard the bangs
We heard the screams
Now it seems it was just a dream.

2008

Ode of Remembrance

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
