Newlyn Tree Planting

At a meeting held this week at Newlyn it was decided to celebrate Victory Day by extending the avenue of trees along the road near Newlyn tennis court.

The trees, evergreen oak, are being obtained from Creswick nursery and a working bee is to be held on the morning of Victory Day to dig the holes.

In the afternoon the planting will be carried out by adults and children under the supervision of a small but energetic committee.

The distribution of medals (the design of which and also the number supplied have been subjected to much criticism) will then be made.

The children will be further catered for, a sports program having been drawn up.

Campbelltown Avenue of Honour

There is a registered listing of an Avenue of Honour in Campbelltown commemorating both WWI & WWII, established circa 1951.

This section of road prior to arriving in Campbelltown  from Smeaton, has a group of trees planted in a line on both sides. There is no avenue sign nor any plaques at the trees.

Is this the registered avenue? Can anyone confirm this? Can anyone provide any information regarding the number of trees in the avenue, if they are planted as an avenue and if each tree represents someone from the town? Contact Us.

Ode of Remembrance

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
