This evening to commemorate the Centenary of the Charge of Beersheba, was a collaboration of the Creswick & District Historical Society and the Creswick-Smeaton RSL Sub-Branch

On behalf of the Presidents of the Creswick & District Historical Society, Mr Jack Van Beveren and the Creswick-Smeaton RSL Sub Branch, Mr Alan Morris, we would like to welcome you all here tonight, at this dinner, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Charge at Beersheba.

Ladies and Gentlemen
On behalf of the Creswick-Smeaton RSL Sub Branch, the Creswick Historical Society and the Creswick Light Horse Troop I welcome you all today to this dinner to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the charge at Beersheba by the 4th Australian Light Horse, a battle in which men and horses from this area were heavily involved. The capture of Beersheba meant that the Gaza-Beersheba line was turned. Gaza fell a week later and on 9 December 1917, the British troops entered Jerusalem.
Later tonight you will hear a talk from our guest speaker well known Military Historian and author Mr Philip Bradley.
Brigadier Michael Annett the Victorian RSL State Secretary will introduce Mr Bradley later on tonight,
We all will look forward to your talk Philip. In the meantime I hope you all enjoy your dinner here at our historic Town Hall, and also please visit our exhibition over in the RSL Hall during the next 10 days.

The song Beersheba was written, song and played with the permission of Ted Egan
The introduction was by Private Jack Nicholson who enlisted on the first day of the war with Service No. 336. He survived the landing at Gallipoli, the Western Front and returned home on Christmas Eve, 1918.
