Creswick Fire Station Bell Tolls for Returned Soldiers

Creswick Advertiser, Friday 16th February 1917.
Picture

The monthly meeting of the Creswick Fire Brigade was held last Tuesday evening when there was a good attendance of members, and Captain S. Rowe presided. A letter was received from the Country Fire Brigades' Board, stating that the board had decided to allow the fire bell to be rung on the occasion of the return of any soldier or soldiers from the Front, but strictly on the condition that it is rung by a member of the brigade, giving certain arranged dongs. It was decided by the brigade that the ringing of the bell on such occasions be left entirely in the hands of the secretary.

Ode of Remembrance

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
