1st April 2014 update
As this will be a one in 100 year event for Creswick, it should be a community event for everyone to be involved in and to participate in in some way.
Listed below are the events that have been discussed and are now in the process of being put together for this Commemoration.
· 100 years of Military History on Hammon Reserve, including a “Charge of the Light Brigade”.
· Turning Albert Street back to 1915 by having vintage cars parked in the street.
· The community dressed in clothing of the 1915 era.
· The shops decorated with red, white & blue ribbon.
· Holding a candlelight vigil on ANZAC Day Eve near the Cenotaph followed by an outdoor cinema showing the movie “Gallipoli”. This vigil is to remember those soldiers who participated in the landing on the 25th April at ANZAC Cove.
At this Service we will unveil the “Field of Crosses” which will have a cross for every person from Creswick and District who joined the Armed Forces in WWI. At this stage we have 867 names to go on crosses. These will be in addition to the crosses that are on display every ANZAC Day, which currently number 257. There will be over 1100 crosses unveiled.
· We are working with the local schools to ensure the involvement of all the students, not only in this event but to ensure in the lead up that they have been given the knowledge to be fully briefed on the “ANZAC Tradition”.
· The ANZAC Day Parade to feature all facets of the Creswick community.
· Tiger Moth Flyover by the RAAF Museum.
· Re-enactment of Troops departing from Creswick Railway Station.
· Participation by all community groups in the ANZAC Day March. We want the whole community to be a part of this special event.
· The Creswick Brass Band will hold a Concert to showcase the music of the era. This will involve both military and dance music. The Band will have a large involvement in this event, both at the vigil and on the 25th April.
· Working with the Creswick Museum to present their Military Collection. We will be loaning the Museum our “Avenues of Honour” photo collection as part of the display.
· Golf Day in conjunction with Creswick Golf Club.
We expect that over the next 12 months many ideas will emerge from the community and all of these will be looked at to see if they are in line with our objective for commemorating this special day.
