Ladies and gentlemen

On behalf of the Creswick- Smeaton RSL I welcome you to this patriotic Dinner.

The last time this dinner was held was 100 years and it was held in this very hall.

The aim of the dinner then was to raise funds to provide comfort parcels for troops as they headed overseas for what they thought was going to be a great adventure.

We now know what they had to endure and we know of the great sacrifice they made in order to keep this country free.

Please enjoy this dinner and the opera recital and I ask you to dig deep in your pockets when we take up a collection for today’s troops.

This money will be used for the welfare of returned service people from places like Iraq, Timor, Somalia, and Afghanistan.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen

Ode of Remembrance

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
