Creswick Veterans Graves Re-Dedication
11th November 2014
Re-Dedication presented by Creswick-Smeaton RSL President Alan Morris
The Australian flag was flying at half mast
The soldiers graves was first dedicated on 6th December 1953. Thirty graves were set aside for returned service men and women of which 27 have now been used.
Recently there has been a lot of work done to refurbish this area of the Creswick Cemetery.
The graves have had new crushed quartz rocks laid, which were donated by Creswick Quartz.
The Australian War Graves Commission have cleaned and polished the plaques on each grave.
The Creswick Community Bank donated $1000 towards the cost of the concreting.
The new flagpole was donated by the Creswick Branch of the Commonwealth Bank and was refurbished and installed by members of the Creswick- Smeaton RSL Sub Branch.
Wendy Ohlsen did the rest of the work and she has done a great job and I’d like to congratulate her on a job well done.
I have to say that the whole cemetery and in particular these soldiers graves looks superb.
We would like to take this opportunity to re-dedicate this section of the Creswick Cemetery to the memory of all our returned service men and women and rename it as the Creswick Veterans’ Section.
Jack Sewell AM laid a wreath on behalf of the Creswick-Smeaton RSL
Reading of the Ode.
They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them.
Following the "Last Post", a Minutes silence and then "Rouse", the flag was slowly hoisted to full mast.
