On the Sunday 25th August 2019, Major neil Lecke RTD (Ret'd) launched his book "Creswick's War" on the the war letters of Samuel "Gordon" Spittle.

Gordon Spittle (youngest of 3) had 2 brothers
(1) Will being the eldest, wife's name Anne. Lived at Allendale. Property name "Monmore Green"
(2) Stan, Lived at "Cavendale". Blowhard. Later married Molly Lonsdale form Blowhard. Her brother Harry Lonsdale (was killed in France)
This book is made up of the letters sent home to his family. Many letters were lost at sea.
Gordon purchased "Mt Craven" in 1911. It had 4 years of a 10 year lease to run. His father and mother tool delivery on 1st April 1916. They lived there and farmed it till his return in May 1919.
As a young lad he grew up in Creswick and went to the Grammar School here. Most of his friends were Creswick district people. Many names in the letters relate to Creswick district families.
Violet Holmes. mentioned in the lettes, later married Goron and both lived at "Mt Cavern: until their deaths.
Gordon died at the age of 51 in 1942. Violet, later in 1949, at 56 years of age.
