VE Day 75th Anniversary celebrations
At 7pm Eastern Australian time, 8th May 2020, Hepburn Shire Town Crier Philip Greenbank and Suzi Koene Bugler with the Creswick Light Horse, took part in the VE Day 75th Anniversary, in front of the Creswick Cenotaph.
The English Pageantmaster Bruno Peek last year organised a worldwide event, with the end of the 1st World War on 11th November with "Battle's Over".
Creswick Light Horse Bugler Suzy Koene -one of 1200 buglers worldwide and Hepburn Shire Town Crier Philip Greenbank – one of 260 Town Criers worldwide, took part in commemorating this event.
At 3pm on the 8th May 1945, England's Prime Minister Winston Churchill, officially announced the end of World War 2 from the Cabinet Office at 10 Downing Street, London.
This year, Pageantmaster Bruno Peek asked those involved in last year’s event, to take part in commemorating the 75th Anniversary of VE Day, today Friday 8th May 2020.
Unfortunately, due to the worldwide COVID-19 virus, all the major events have been cancelled but he has asked that the Pipers, Buglers and Town Criers from around the world to do a solo commemoration.
Hepburn Shire Town Crier Philip Greenbank read "A Cry for Peace Around the World" followed by a Minute's Silence, then Creswick Light Horse Bugler Suzi Koene played "The Last Post".
The Cry and The Last Post echoed through the town on a still night.
The bugle that Suzi plays, is 134 years old and was used during the 1st World War.
