Creswick ANZAC Day Service 2022
Presentation of Vietnam Cross - Zack Betts
I was inspired by a documentary called Vietnam the lost films, which documents the entire war from start to finish. The idea of the cross came to me straight away after watching this documentary, and straight away I began to work on it.
Putting my joinery skills to work I used a variety of joins and techniques to machine, cut, assembly and detail the cross using Australian red gum wood. After building this memorial I began to think to myself that maybe this piece would be better off being displayed somewhere like a local RSL where everyone can see and appreciated it.
So I contacted the Creswick-Smeaton RSL to offer it as a donation, I was very relieved and proud that the offer was accepted, and felt even more proud that the RSL offered to do a presentation on ANZAC Day to reveal it.
Wearing my CFA formal uniform to present the cross to the members of the RSL in ANZAC was a very rewarding experience and accomplishment for myself.
