Today marks the 75th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day or VJ Day.

On this day, 15th August 1945, Imperial Japan announced its surrender, in effect bringing to an end
           World War II,

This was made by Emperor Hirohito, who announced on radio, Japan's acceptance of the terms of the
           Potsdam Declaration.

Two weeks later, the formal signing of the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, took place on board the
battleship USS Missouri, in Tokyo Bay on 2nd September, 1945.

Ode of Remembrance

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
